Ayanna Spa

Grove Magazine March 2013: High Maintenance - Spa Review - 01/03/2013

Ayanna on Holland Park Avenue is an easy venue to miss, but this intimate, boutique-styled spa should not be overlooked.

On my visit, I was immediately welcomed by their friendly staff. Initially, I'd wanted to sample the Myoxy-Caviar and Pearl Facial, but was quickly advised that this anti-ageing treatment would have little use for my 25 year old skin; so we settled on the Prescriptive Facial.

At Ayanna, they don't use the word 'prescriptive' lightly. From the moment the therapist put the spotlight on my skin, she was outlining every relevant treatment.

For the first half, we focused on the plight of many urban-dwellers - deep set blackheads. Using a gentle steaming technique and 10 minutes of unpleasant but essential extractions, she worked on the core problem areas - chin, nose and forehead.

The personalised aspect of the facial meant that the therapist tackled several problems at once; unclogging pores, hydrating dry skin and addressing early fine lines around my eyes.

It was a welcome relief that my therapist offered impartial advice on managing skincare without making it seem like a lecture. She explained that the most common mistake women make with their skincare routine is using anti-ageing products too early and recommended the Pevonia Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser from their Botanics range, £30. I have been addicted ever since. Two weeks later, my skin was clearer than it's been in years.

For Mother's Day, Ayanna Spa will be offering the Myoxy Caviar and Pearl Facial for £96 (usual price £120) and 15% off Pevonia's anti-aging homecare product range
